Product Description

How to change power steering fluid?

The oil change method is as follows:

1. Support the front axle and keep the wheels off the ground.

2. Remove the cover of the oil storage tank, remove the oil return pipe and the oil drain plug of the steering gear.

3. Start the engine and run it at high speed for about 10 minutes to discharge the hydraulic oil in the oil storage tank, steering gear booster pump and steering gear.

4. Turn off the engine, turn the steering wheel left and right to the limit position, and drain all the remaining hydraulic oil.

5. Replace the filter element, add hydraulic oil to the specified height, and drain the air in the hydraulic system.

Modern Hydraulic Power Steering Pump
Maintenance of Power Steering Pump

1) The Steering Pump should be firmly installed on the pump bracket to ensure that the pump pulley is on the same plane as the engine crankshaft pulley and tensioning pulley, and the belt should be tensioned by tensioning pulley or other tensioning methods. Tensioning force: new belt: 45~55kgf Old belt: 35~45kgf

2) When the vehicle is turning, the time to kill in the direction should be minimized as much as possible (no more than 10 seconds when the engine speed is below 1500 rpm, and no more than 4 seconds when the engine speed is above 1500 rpm), otherwise the steering pump will generate severe heat, resulting in reduced service life.

3) The Steering System should be filled with steering fluid according to the standard requirements, and the steering fluid specified by Great Wall is Dexron III.

4) The ambient temperature used for the steering system is - 40 ℃ to 35 ℃.

5) When adding steering fluid, the level should meet the requirements (within the "cold level" range specified by the oil dipstick, and when the oil temperature rises to 80 ℃, the level should be within the "hot level" range).

6) Various clearances for the internal parts of the steering pump are optional, so it is generally not allowed to disassemble, replace, or repair the steering pump itself.

7) Replacement method and exhaust of steering fluid:

7.1) Jacking up the front side of the vehicle body;

7.2) Remove the oil inlet and return pipes from the oil tank and drain the hydraulic oil into the container;

7.3) Remove the steering gear oil return pipe connector and drain the hydraulic oil into a container;

7.4) Turn the direction to the two limit positions several times, and drain the oil in the cylinders on both sides of the steering gear (at this time, the oil will be discharged from the steering gear oil return port);

7.5) Remove each oil pipe and drain the residual oil in the pipe;

7.6) Install each oil pipe in its original state;

7.7) Fill the filtered steering fluid into the oil tank;

Start the engine. At this time, the oil level will drop. Stop the engine quickly to replenish the liquid to the "cold level" position, and then start the engine. Turn left and right to the limit, with a dead time of 2-3 seconds.

7.9) Shut down the engine and recheck that the liquid level in the oil tank should be within the range of "cold liquid level", otherwise, replenish the liquid;

7.10) Exhaust method: Start the engine with a rotational speed less than about 1000 rpm and turn the steering wheel to the extreme position for several times, lasting 2-3 seconds each time. Then turn the steering wheel to the intermediate position, allowing the engine to run at idle speed for 3-5 minutes. Observe whether the air bubbles in the fuel tank have disappeared. If the air bubbles still do not disappear, repeat the above steps before checking. If there is still a problem, The system should be checked for air leakage (see the troubleshooting section).

8) When the steering system is in operation or stopped operation, the height of the steering fluid level will change (the maximum increase of the fluid level is 5 mm);

9) Generally, there will be no failure inside the steering pump. Do not disassemble or replace parts at will. If the internal cleanliness of the steering system is poor, you can remove the control valve nut of the booster pump, clean the inside of the valve chamber, and promptly blow dry with clean compressed air.
