Working Principle of Power Steering
The power steering system includes a steering pump, hydraulic cylinder, and hydraulic control valve. When the driver turns the steering wheel, the steering pump draws hydraulic oil from the tank and directs it to the hydraulic cylinder. The pressure of the hydraulic oil causes the piston of the hydraulic cylinder to move left or right, turning the wheels.
The hydraulic control valve regulates the flow and direction of hydraulic oil based on the pressure transmitted by the steering pump. If the steering wheel angle is small, not much hydraulic oil pressure is needed, and the hydraulic control valve directs the hydraulic oil to the oil reservoir next to the hydraulic cylinder. If the steering angle is large, the hydraulic control valve directs the hydraulic oil to the hydraulic cylinder, applying greater force.
The advantage of this system is that it helps drivers steer the vehicle more easily, especially when handling heavy vehicles and busy urban traffic. It also provides a more stable and safe driving experience, as it reduces the power required by the driver, especially at low speeds and during turns.
