How does a dual clutch gearbox work?
The dual clutch automatic transmission (DCT) is based on a manual transmission. Unlike manual transmissions, the two clutches in DCT are connected to two input shafts, and shifting and clutch operations are achieved through a mechatronic module that integrates electronic and hydraulic components. And is no longer operated by the clutch pedal. Just like the Tiptronic hydraulic automatic transmission, the driver can manually shift gears or place the gear lever in fully automatic D gear (comfort type, shifting when the engine is running at low speeds) or S gear (task type, shifting when the engine is running at high speeds) mode. Shifting in this mode is typically accomplished by a gear and clutch actuator. Each of the two clutches is connected to a different input shaft. If clutch 1 is connected to gears 1, 3, and 5 through a solid shaft, clutch 2 is connected to gears 2, 4, 6, and reverse gear through a hollow shaft.
